Miller Electric Credit Union (MECU)

Protecting personal information and using it in a manner
consistent with
your expectations and all related rules, laws, and regulations
is a high priority for MECU.
To ensure that you can rely on the quality of products
and services MECU make available, your credit union
stands behind the following privacy policies:
- MECU will collect only the non-public information
that is necessary to conduct business. “Non-public
information” is defined as that which is not
normally available to the public through open records
but is necessary to provide competitive financial
products and services including information which
we:
- Receive from you on applications or other forms.
- Collect from your transactions with us or others.
- Request from a credit reporting agency.
- Obtain when verfying information.
- MECU will protect your personal information.
- MECU will maintain strong security controls
to ensure that your information in our files and
computers is protected.
- Where appropriate, MECU will use security coding
to precent unauthorized access to your personal
records, to ensure accuracy and integrity in all
communications and transactions, and to protect
your confidentiality.
- Employees and others will only be given information
on a need-to-know basis.
- MECU will provide you with access to your private
information.
- You will have the opportunity to review your
information and make necessary changes to ensure
that our records are complete and accurate.
- Access will be arranged during regular office
hours at a mutually agreed upon so as not to inconvenience
other members.
- MECU will only share information about you and former
members when absolutely necessary or disclosures to
other nonaffiliated parties is permitted by law, such
as:
- When sharing is necessary to administer the
products and services.
- When we are required to do so by the regulatory
bodies.
- When the Board of Directors decides to partner
with other businesses to offer you a broader array
of products and services.
- When we have a joint marketing agreement or
to companies that perform marketing services on
our behalf.
- MECU will partner only with businesses that follow
strict confidentiality requirements.
- Partnering businesses will only be selected
if they can offer products designed to enhance
your economic well-being.
- Under no circumstances will MECU authorize these
firms to change or access any of your accounts
without your
written consent nor to provide information to
third parties.
- MECU will not sell your information to telemarketing
firms.
- MECU will offer you a choice on how your private
information is to be used.
- Any member of MECU may elect to keep non-public
information (”opt out”) from being
shared with business partners unless it is required
for normal business activities such as credit
reports, statement processing, check processing,
etc.
- MECU will inform you of how to exercise your
choice, namely, by calling our office during regular
hours.
- MECU will take reasonable steps to make sure
your requests are followed.
- At least once a year, MECU will remind you or
your right to “opt out.”
- MECU is committed to protecting the privacy of
its members. Members can help by following these simple
guidelines:
- Protect your account numbvers, plastic card
numbers, PINs (personal identification numbers)
or passwords. Never keep your PIN with your card,
which can provide free access to your accounts
if your card is lost or stolen.
- Use caution when disclosing your account numbers,
social security numbers, etc. to other persons.
If someone calls you explaining the call is on
behalf of the credit union and asks for you account
number, you should beware. Official credit union
staff will have access to your information and
will not need to ask for it.
